Job Description
To assist within the Kennel area and act as technical team leader in the absence of the Kennel Manager. 

 -     Work directly under the supervision of the kennel manager.
  • Perform all duties of the animal care tech and cross train in office skills to assist when staff shortage occurs.
  • Assist in morning duties prior to opening.
  • Check incoming animals to determine proper placement based on status, temperament, and health.
  • Perform Heartworm tests on dogs.
  • Perform Feline Leukemia and FIV tests on cats/kittens
  • Give proper inoculations and worming on all animals placed for adoption.
  • Groom all animals, which include, nail trim, bathing, ear cleaning, and temperature testing. Report any ear mite, wound infections, etc.
  • Medicate animals that are on medication, and treat any problems such as ear mites, fleas, ticks.
  • Help keep eye out for any problems such as behavioral problems, diseases or any other problems that might arise.
  • Conduct temperament testing on all dogs placed up for adoption
  • Perform humane euthanasia (when certified) or assist with animals selected for euthanasia.
  • Use specific behavioral training methods on designated dogs as recommended by Behavioral Specialist.
  • Assign volunteers and community service workers duties and make sure they are staying on task.
  • Perform skin scraping and fecals as needed.
  • Shall perform any duties specified by kennel manager.
  • Act as Manager on duty in the absence of the Kennel Manager.
  •     Perform job duties in a positive, helpful manner.
Education; High school diploma or GED
 Experience: One year shelter experience and Euthanasia certification


Must have thorough knowledge of animal health issues behavior, control and handling of dogs, cats and other animals. Must have excellent communication skills, skilled at record-keeping and organized.
