In October 1984, the idea of forming a jazz club in Brevard County sparked through the Historian. Attending a seminar in Sarasota sponsored by the Jazz Club of Sarasota shortly after, valuable insights were gained to assist in organizing the club. Recruitment efforts began upon return to Cocoa Beach, including accessing the union directory and seeking advice from Jazz promoter Jack Simpson. Initial interest was generated through a letter in a local newspaper and word of mouth. By April 1, 1984, invitations were sent out to a mailing list of potential members for a preliminary meeting, leading to the establishment of the club. The first meeting, held at Kiwanis Hall in Merritt Island, saw discussions on club name, organizational aspects, and activities. Eventually, the club found a home at the Recreation Center in Indian Harbour Beach, where monthly meetings and music sessions took place.
