Green Gables Historic Home Open House
Green Gables is the 128-year-old Queen Anne historic home of the Wells family, one of the generous benefactors who played a key role in the development of early Melbourne. At this time Green Gables needs community members to embrace the nonprofit’s vision for this architecture, family legacy, and community history. Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc. has established a plan to rehabilitate and restore the home under the Dept. of Interior’s rules for historic properties. This will be an ambitious endeavor where the community’s support will be very much appreciated.
William and Nora Wells’ vision and their generosity gifted the area with Wells Park and the first auditorium, the first library, establishing the first high school, and many more things in the area, all of which have been a benefit for residents of several generations. Green Gables will be a living history museum and a community outreach center on the greenspace of the Indian River Lagoon. Together we can restore Green Gables and save history.
