Full Time Domestic Violence Advocate
Serene Harbor, Inc. located in Brevard County, FL, is actively seeking a full-time Domestic Violence Advocate to provide advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning, and lethality assessments to survivors of domestic violence residing in our emergency shelter as well as those calling our 24-hour hotline. This is full-time 40 hours a week position consisting of 4pm-12am evening, 12am-8am overnight and weekend shifts, flexibility required.
Responsibilities Include:
Provide crisis de-escalation, safety planning, crisis counseling, social service referrals, domestic violence empowerment and advocacy
Reports directly to the Shelter Director
Full time, 40 hours per week, evening, overnight and weekend shifts
Will attend Domestic Violence Core Competency Training for Certification
Maintain safety and security protocols at Shelter at all times
Respond to helpline calls and complete documentation in accordance with agency requirements
Provide intake services for residents entering Shelter and exit interviews for residents leaving Shelter
Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements
Perform other duties as necessary or assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Completion of 30-hour Domestic Violence Core Competency Training, as required by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) or equivalent agency in your state (required post-hire if not already certified)
Ability to pass a Level II background screening
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other trauma
Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
Key Skills and Competencies:
Trauma-informed care and understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence
Strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations (cultural competency)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Professional boundaries and confidentiality practices
Comfortable working overnight, evening, weekend, or on-call shifts if needed
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Additional Considerations:
Familiarity with community resources and social service systems
Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional development
